Low self-esteem is something that happens overtime. It is not a condition that happens instantaneously. Usually, someone who has a low self-esteem would most likely have developed it from their childhood or teenage years.

For instance, if a child is continually criticized by his or her parents, it can contribute to his or her self-esteem.

For an adult, anyone who experiences any unpleasant occurrence would most likely have a self-esteem. Someone who loses his or her job, breaks off from a relationship would have a low self-esteem.

As people get older, their self-esteem reduces. This is an entirely natural process. During this old age phase, there could be a decline in physical health, finance and the likes. This can contribute to a low self-esteem.

In addition to this, children who are obese are regular victims of bullying. People pick on them because of their weight and size.

Children who are victims of bullying often have low self-esteem. It takes a lot of motivation and encouragement to get these children back on track.

If you check most cultures, you will discover that women have a low self-esteem than men on a general scale.

Furthermore, people who have sexual orientations like gays, lesbians, transgender and the likes, they are likely to have a low self-esteem.
